Challenge

Client was faced with a legacy Website that was both slow and inefficient in providing up–to–date data (Cruising info, weather, news & alerts, itinerary changes) to its large base of travel agents. There was a need for a more proactive solution that extended the premiere experience that was part of the Client’s brand image.

Solution

Due to identified inefficiencies with email and the time–consuming nature of the Website, it was decided to develop a downloadable application that operated directly on a user’s desktop and provided timely alerts whenever updates were available.

  • Provide specifications to the creative team handling the user interface design to reflect the various intricacies of building desktop applications versus standard Websites

  • Validate functionality with Client stakeholders based on stated business requirements

  • Prototype a clickable “walk–through” version of the application to ensure flows would perform as expected

  • Build application (based on C++ back–end and Flash front–end) including application interface (API) into the Client’s secure Agent log–in functionality that enabled customized messages to be delivered directly to individual agents

  • Provide customized access to the system’s built–in content management system that allowed clients to post alerts, documents, and other content through a simple Web interface

Results

The now award–winning application proved to be a tremendous success for the Client, including downloads by a large percentage of their total travel agent base and regular usage by many of them as shown by daily measurement reports. Feedback from agents has been overwhelmingly positive, including high marks for ease of access to critical content and the ability to customize content updates based on personalized requirements.
