Challenge
To support the full Website redesign efforts, the Client needed an eCommerce solution that would support and enable the world–class customer experience already under creative development. The cutting–edge solution also required integration with the Client’s existing mainframe (green-screen) infrastructure already supported by an over–taxed IT team.
Solution
Using a combination of technical process and integrated project management, the team create a parallel–path plan that enabled the following tasks to occur while creative development proceeded:

Develop functional requirements based on pre–validated business requirements and initial creative concepts

Perform eCommerce tool selection based on a weighted technical requirements score–sheet including integration with legacy mainframe

Create technical specifications and validate with Client’s IT team to ensure high confidence of integration process

Development of eCommerce tool, including development of application interfaces (APIs) to push and pull product data from legacy mainframe, including all testing and launch support

Interview, qualify, and assist in hiring of key Client support resources responsible for management of the new system, augmenting with vendor–side staffing until all roles were filled
Results
The resulting system proved to be a tremendous success for the Client. From an infrastructure perspective, the eCommerce tool was able to seamlessly support the pre–existing inventory management process while putting no additional burden on the existing IT organization to support it. After over 7 years, the same tool and supporting infrastructure is in place and continue to be easily adapted to support the Client’s introduction of new technologies and processes to the system.
