Challenge
The Client requested the development of a dashboard for their institutional retirement plan administrators to monitor the overall performance of their plans against corresponding market segments. Disparate data sources required special attention due to the sensitive nature of the information, and the solution needed to be able to support specific reporting requirements of both the Institutional Investment and Tax–Free Retirement divisions of the company, each with unique needs.
Solution
The team partnered with the Client’s IT and Data teams to ensure that all necessary content could be properly accessed and that all security measures were in–place and would not be violated by the creation of the dashboard. Once finalized, the data was all mapped and reviewed by the internal and Client team to ensure that no content was missing or incorrect, thus minimizing potential for having to rework the data feeds after they had been built. Specific steps that went into the development of the solution included:
-
Working with the client teams to define metrics
-
Building data hygiene processes to gather the data from the disparate data sources housed in SQL, Oracle, and DB2
-
Integrating 3rd party chart/graph application for quick and easy display of a multitude of data views
Results
The initial application was highly cost–effective and very well–received, and was a highly effective tool allowing a select group of clients to view their plan’s performance. Demand for added functionality came in almost immediately, and immediate follow–up phases added the ability for the plan administrators to monitor performance on a quarterly and year–over–year basis. Ultimately, functionality was also added to offer value-added services to the administrators aimed at helping to improve their plan’s overall performance in the market.
